Behind the Scenes:
Designing the Stargazers Gala Experience

Every event has a front‑of‑house story — the lights, the applause, the awards, the photos shared the next morning. But the part I love most lives behind the scenes: the quiet hours of planning, sketching, testing, and building the visual world guests will step into.
For the Front Royal–Warren County Chamber of Commerce’s Stargazers Gala, celebrating 85 years of service, I had the privilege of shaping that world.

Starting With a Feeling

Before I ever open Canva or start inflating balloons, I begin with a question: What should guests feel the moment they walk in?
For this event, the answer came quickly — wonder, celebration, and a sense of being part of something bigger. The Chamber was honoring decades of leadership and recognizing the people who make our community shine. A celestial theme wasn’t just pretty; it was symbolic.

Designing the Photo‑Op Experience

The photo‑op area is always one of my favorite parts of an event because it becomes the unofficial storytelling hub — the place where guests gather, laugh, pose, and create the images that will live on long after the night ends.
For the Stargazers Gala, I designed a balloon installation that blended:
metallic star balloons
layered clusters of gold, silver, and midnight blue
a backdrop that allowed the stars to glow without overwhelming the space
Working with the venue’s management team, I mapped out the footprint, lighting angles, and guest flow. The installation had to be beautiful, but also functional — accessible, sturdy, and camera‑friendly from every angle.
Seeing guests line up to take photos, laughing and celebrating in front of something I built with my own hands, is always the moment it all clicks.

Crafting the Invitations & Keepsakes

Visual storytelling doesn’t start at the door — it starts in the mailbox.
I help with the designed the event invitations to introduce the celestial theme with clean lines, elegant typography, and a sense of anticipation. The commemorative bookmark became a small but meaningful keepsake, honoring the Chamber’s 85‑year legacy and giving guests something to take home that felt intentional and lasting.
These pieces set the tone before guests ever arrived, creating a cohesive experience from first impression to final applause.
